5 simple ways to be HAPPIER at Work!At The Training Store we love being happy at work and we want you to be as well!
So we have put together our top 5 simple ways to be happier at work.
Make 2015 your year to recognise people for being special in their own right. Give out genuine compliments to people around you and watch the joy come back to you in leaps and bounds.
Make it a goal to find something nice to say to someone that you may see or interact with regularly but normally don’t converse with, like the server at the Post Office, or people that are on the same floor in your office building that you see in the lift. Practice outside of work and then incorporate into your work once your feel comfortable.
Start a journal to keep track of your daily interactions with people and let them know how they have helped to Make Your Day. You can do this by going out of your way to THANK them. It is not difficult but we often forget how valuable human contact is and we actually crave it.
If you are having a bad day think of all of the good things that you have in your life; your spouse, your kids, your pets, your friends, a home, food, your health, safety, gorgeous weather, air conditioning, music, love, and list can go on and on. What are you grateful for? Add this to your daily journal and remember there are others in the world that do not have it so good.
Plan ahead and set achievable goals
The beginning of the New Year is a time to start fresh and if you had goals or plans that you did not achieve last year don’t let that stop you from refocusing and going for it again this year!
The best way to achieve your goals and targets is of course to write them down, then follow up on a regular basis and share it with someone to help hold you accountable. Your daily planner may be on your phone or computer, where you have written it does not matter.
There are fantastic APPS out there that can help you with list making and one we love is Wunderlist. You can share your lists with friends, family or co-workers and when you tick off that you have completed an item you will hear a rewarding notification sound. Customise this and have fun ticking off your achievements. Make it a game. You can plan for everything from grocery shopping, fitness, daily activity or tasks that need to be completed at work. But don’t be afraid to set yourself weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual goals.
Brighten up your workspace with inspirational quotes and images that help keep you uplifted. You can find plenty of these on your social media applications but take it to the next level and print them out or buy fun up beat stickers to decorate your planner and workspace.
Often a photo of loved ones or pets can be enough to make you smile when you need it most. Surround yourself with stuff you love. Kikki-k.com is great place to shop for picking up inspirational workspace items.
If you cannot decorate your workspace create an online motivational space by using Pinterest to pin your favourite uplifting sayings or images. Some we have found are:
• Life is too short to miss out on being really happy
• Be so happy that when others look at your they become happy too
• The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday
Set FUN meetings with friends
Sometimes talking with one of your best friends can totally change your mood, but often we get bogged down with being busy and sometimes we let too much time go by in between catch ups.
Why not set up a brief phone appointment to talk weekly or schedule time to catch up with a friend for a coffee or lunch during the week? Having someone that truly cares about you to share the challenges you may have at work can be the little lift you need to Choose to be Happy.
Also you will be rewarded with warm fuzzies for Being There more for your friends and this can lead to stronger and longer lasting friendships. People that are happy outside of work tend to bring their happiness to work.
AND OUR NUMBER 1 WAY TO BE HAPPIER AT WORK
Create your Happy Play List
We all have difficult days and sometimes there are tasks or meetings that may bring you down just at the very thought of them. For a change, why not take control and choose to adjust your outlook by playing your favourite upbeat music to help get you in a more positive mood. Music has an amazing influence on your mood.
Some of the songs on our Happy playlist are “I’m So Excited” by Pointer Sisters, it’s an oldie but a goodie. Also still love the massive hit from 2014 “Because I’m Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Share your Happy playlist with co-workers and incorporate a time at in the office to play each other’s playlists in the break room or to start a meeting.
If you work in an environment where you cannot play music at work, use your Happy playlist to get you motivated on the way to work or take a walk at lunch and listen to it then. It will take some time to set up but will be well worth it. You will be surprised how your upbeat attitude will become contagious and rub off on your fellow co-workers.
At The Training Store we love to incorporate FUN upbeat music in all of our Fish Philosophy workshops. If you have any favourite songs that you think we should include please share them with us on Facebook or Linked In and we will send you a little coupon voucher to use in our store.
We will share more ideas throughout the coming months. Stay tune and stay HAPPY !!!
